WHY THIS AGE MATTERS
Years 1–2 are the most important years in literacy. Here’s why.
The reading and writing habits formed before Year 3 are the strongest predictor of literacy performance in high school. The window is open now.

Foundation Club is not remedial support. It is foundational investment giving your child the strongest possible platform before the curriculum gets harder.
THE HYBRID APPROACH
Reading and writing taught together because that’s how they actually work.
Most programs separate reading and writing. FunFox connects them because children who read well write better, and children who write clearly understand more of what they read.
Phonics and sight word recognition
Sentence construction and grammar
Spelling patterns and word families

THE CURRICULUM
A full year of structured learning
Every term builds on the last. Every skill taught before it’s tested.
Term 1
Descriptive writing
Students learn to use sensory language to build vivid, detailed sentences. Vocabulary introduced through guided activities, not rote learning.
Term 2
Narrative writing
Storytelling basics characters, setting, beginning-middle-end. Children learn to structure a story before they write it.
Term 3
Persuasive writing
Early introduction to opinion and reasoning. Children practice saying what they think and why, in a structured, age-appropriate way.
Term 4
Informative writing
Organising facts clearly. A skill that powers report writing, science tasks, and comprehension answers across every subject.
DESIGNED FOR YOUNG LEARNERS
Not a scaled-down adult class. Built from the ground up for ages 6–8.
Physical activity pack
Australian Year 1–2 students receive a physical pack of printed worksheets delivered to their home each term. Because at this age, writing on paper is still how learning is consolidated.
One-on-one assessment
Year 1 students begin with a free 20-minute one-on-one assessment. We place your child at exactly the right level not too easy, not too hard from day one.
Game-based learning
Every class uses games, activities and peer interaction. Engagement isn’t a bonus at this age it’s the engine. Children who enjoy learning retain more and improve faster.
Sandwich feedback
Positive first. One clear improvement. Positive again. Every piece of feedback is structured to build confidence not erode it. Children leave class feeling capable.
REAL RESULTS

“We started our son in Foundation Club when he was 6. By Year 3 he was writing independently and confidently. His teacher said he was one of the strongest writers in the class. The early start made all the difference.”

Reading and writing together
★★★★★
“What I love most is that they teach reading and writing as one thing. Within two terms her comprehension and her writing both improved. It’s clearly the right approach for this age.”

COMMON QUESTIONS
Everything parents want to know answered honestly.
No jargon. Just clear answers to the questions parents actually ask.
About the program
Not at all. Our Foundation Club is specifically designed for 6–8 year olds. Sessions are highly interactive and game-based. Year 1 parents are encouraged to sit alongside their child, which makes it a shared experience rather than a solo screen session.
Schools cover reading and writing across 25–30 students with limited time for individual feedback. FunFox gives your child a teacher who knows their specific strengths and gaps, provides personal feedback on every piece of work, and teaches reading and writing together in a way most schools don’t have time to do.
Absolutely not. Year 2 is still well within the foundational window. Starting now means your child enters Year 3 when reading and writing demands increase significantly with strong habits already in place.
Australian Year 1–2 students receive a physical pack of printed worksheets delivered to their home at the start of each term. At this age, writing with a pencil on paper remains an important part of how learning is consolidated. International students access everything digitally through the Learning Den.
📅 Classes and scheduling
For Year 1 yes, we ask parents to be present. For Year 2 we recommend being nearby. By the end of Term 1, most Year 2 students are independent. We guide every family through this transition as their child settles in.
Each week your child receives short homework activities usually 10 to 15 minutes. They complete these and upload to the Learning Den portal. The teacher reviews their work before the one-hour live Zoom class. Class recordings are available after every session.
Missed classes can be rescheduled through the Learning Den portal. If rescheduling isn’t possible, a full recording of every class is available. No session is ever completely lost.
$495 per term — paid as three monthly instalments of $165. A one-time enrolment fee of $80 applies on signup. No hidden charges beyond these.
