The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a nationwide assessment for all Australian students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. It tests essential skills in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and numeracy. NAPLAN takes place in a national testing window from March 11–23. It is not a pass-or-fail test — it measures how your child is progressing compared to expected learning levels.

NAPLAN takes place during a national testing window from March 11–23, happening in Term 1. FunFox NAPLAN Booster starts earlier — self-paced modules and adaptive tests are available from Term 4 of the prior year. The three live Saturday revision sessions are scheduled in late February and early March, in the weeks immediately before NAPLAN.
FunFox NAPLAN Booster covers Years 3, 5 and 7 — the year groups that sit NAPLAN in Australia. Content is pitched at exactly the right level for each year group, and students are placed in year-specific groups so everything they study is relevant to their exam.
The difference is significant. Most providers on the market sell tests with a different user interface from NAPLAN and that are not adaptive — each test is the same for every student — and they charge $70 per exam. FunFox tests replicate the exact NAPLAN interface so there are no surprises on test day. They are fully adaptive, meaning the questions adjust to your child’s ability level and are unique to them. And they are included in the $650 program fee.
Yes. The NAPLAN Booster is a complimentary add-on for any family already enrolled in a FunFox program — Writers Club, Readers Club, Foundation Club or High School Club. The $650 fee applies to families enrolling in the NAPLAN Booster as a standalone program.
Writers Club and Readers Club build the literacy skills that NAPLAN tests year-round. The NAPLAN Booster is the exam-specific layer on top: adaptive tests, targeted revision of what NAPLAN specifically rewards, and practice under exam conditions. For FunFox students the booster is complimentary and we recommend all eligible students take advantage of it.
All live sessions are recorded and accessible through the FunFox portal. If your child misses a session, they can access the full recording and the session materials. The self-paced modules also cover the same content independently, so no preparation is ever completely lost.

WHAT NAPLAN ACTUALLY TESTS
Most children go into NAPLAN without being taught what it actually tests.
NAPLAN doesn’t test how much your child knows. It tests how well they can read, understand and communicate under time pressure. These are learnable skills. Most children have never been explicitly taught them.
Reading component
Multiple text types fiction, non-fiction, informational texts. Questions require inference, literal recall, vocabulary in context, and text structure identification. Each question type demands a different reading strategy. Most children use the same approach for every question. That’s why they lose marks.
Writing component
One writing prompt persuasive or narrative. Marked on structure, vocabulary, sentence fluency, punctuation, spelling and audience awareness. The markers look for specific structural signals. Children who know what those signals are score higher regardless of how ‘talented’ they are.
Most children can read the texts but they don’t know which reading strategy to use for which question type. And their writing lacks the structural markers examiners look for. That’s the gap FunFox closes.
